The Langya Mountain scenic area is located in the eastern foothills of the Taihang Mountains in Baoding, Hebei province, North China. Covering an area of 225 square kilometers, it is a famous destination for tourism, including for learning about China’s contemporary history of revolution, which draws visitors to admire its unique natural scenery and rich historical and cultural heritage.
The natural landscapes and cultural sites of Langya Mountain complement each other beautifully. Natural wonders like Qipantuo, Shiqipan, and Yanwangxiantai showcase nature’s extraordinary craftsmanship and leave visitors in awe. Cultural relics such as the Taoist Laojuntang and Cangu Temple carry a rich historical legacy, with each site seeming to whisper stories of the past. Red tourism landmarks like the Warriors’ Exhibition Hall and the Heroes’ Memorial Tower stand in solemn tribute, reminding people to remember the heroic struggles of history and to carry forward the spirit of the revolutionary pioneers.
On Sept 25, 1941, more than 3,500 Japanese invaders and their Chinese puppet troops launched an assault on the southwest of Yixian county in the Langya Mountain area. At this critical moment, five Chinese soldiers bravely stepped forward. To cover the safe retreat of their company, they engaged in a fierce life-and-death battle with the enemy. In the end, three of them heroically sacrificed their lives in their twenties, and only two soldiers survived.
To honor the heroic deeds of the five Chinese soldiers, the Langya Mountain Three Martyrs Tower was built in July 1942 on Qipantuo, the main peak of Langya Mountain. In 2001, the Langya Mountain Five Warriors Exhibition Hall was completed and opened to the public on May 1 of the following year, becoming an important site for people to pay tribute to the heroes and to receive patriotic education.
