This national memorial, established in 1987, honors the Chinese people's heroic struggle against Japanese aggression from 1931 to 1945. The memorial offers a crucial window into a pivotal period of East Asian history, specifically the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, Japan’s 1874 invasion of Taiwan and its subsequent 50-year colonial rule from 1895.

Commemorations are held regularly at the memorial to mark Victory Day of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (Sept 3), the National Memorial Day for Nanjing Massacre Victims (Dec 13), and the global fight against fascism.
